The objective of this quantitative, correlational and cross-sectional investigation was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of iron deficiency anemia and preventive practices in mothers of children aged 6 to 36 months who attend the Alto Trujillo Health Center. The sample consisted of 140 mothers, who met the selection criteria. For data collection, two questionnaires were used according to the variables under study: one on the level of knowledge and the other on maternal practices on the prevention of iron deficiency anemia. The results were presented in single and double entry tables, the information was processed and analyzed using Kendall's tau C statistical test to establish the relationship between both variables. The results indicated that the level of knowledge of the mothers of children aged 6 to 36 months about iron deficiency anemia was mostly high (71.4%), medium (25%) and low (3.6%); preventive practices were mostly adequate (90%) and inadequate (10%). It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge about iron deficiency anemia and preventive practices (p < 0.05).
