Background: Currently there are couples who wish to postpone or avoid procreation, but do not use any contraceptive method by various factors, such as low socioeconomic status, low educational, cultural or religious oppositions, fear of side effects of contraceptive methods and poor information by the health personnel, the absence of family planning brings social and economic problems, which affect the population.
Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitudes and practices in family planning of the users in Tarqui Health Center, Cuenca 2016.
Methodology: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted at the Center for Health Tarqui; the sample consisted of 118 users which were evaluated by applying a validated instrument by the University Of San Francisco Of Quito in 2014. The analyzes were performed in version 19 SPSS program.
Results: It was observed that 69,5% know about family planning and contraception. The most popular method was the condom, health centers and doctors were the main source of information; on the other hand 24,6% refers to contraception ill. The decision to use is made mainly of a couple (86,4%) and frequency of use of contraceptive methods was 78,0%, with natural methods and the most common implants.
Conclusions: A high frequency was found knowledge about family planning and contraceptive use. As should maintain good promotion of family planning and contraception as an important role in community awareness to encourage attendance to consultations and to use contraceptive methods that could reduce sexually transmitted diseases and not wanted-pregnancy
