Objective: To determine the prevalence of inadequate dietary behavior in children of 1-5 years of health centers of the Ministry of Public Health from February to August 2013, in the city of Cuenca and its relation to associated factors such as family, caregivers, sex migration and level of caregiver.
Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in health centers of the Ministry of Public Health of the city of Cuenca in 228 children aged 1-5 years, data were collected through (general and CEBQ) forms. Data to SPSS software version 18 for Windows was entered and the results are presented in frequency tables.
Results: The mean age of the population was between 30.23 months and a standard deviation of 13.71 months, most were female (52.6%), maternal caregiver (82.9%), nuclear family (61.4%) and the level of education was primary caregiver (36.8%). On feeding behavior 89% own misconduct, 11% was placed in normal feeding behavior. Most were female (90%), no maternal (92.3%) caregivers; nuclear family (89.8%), migration (100%), inadequate level of instruction (91.7%). No risk factor was associated with inadequate dietary behavior (p> 0.05) and no significant values of chi square.
Conclusions: The high prevalence of inadequate dietary behavior, an important factor for causing health problems in the future.
