Resumen
The vast majority of the national road network is made up of flexible pavement,
which exhibits the early appearance of pathologies that worsen by not
maintaining it; these problems are related to the quality of the aggregates,
asphalt, among others. Due to this, the present research work focuses on
analyzing the performance of the incorporation of crushed glass in asphalt
mixtures in percentages of 5 to 20%. Through the Marshall method, the
conventional and modified asphalt mixtures were designed and evaluated, thus
determining the optimal percentage of asphalt and other necessary parameters
that an asphalt mixture must meet. With the conventional asphalt mixture, was
obtained an optimum percentage of bitumen of 6.5% and a stability of 6327.23
lb., but on the other hand, with the addition of 15% of glass, an optimum
percentage of asphalt 5.93% was obtained and a stability of 6413.27 lb. In
general, the addition of glass improves the mechanical properties of the asphalt
mix and reduces the optimum percentage of asphalt used. In addition, the
economic analysis that was carried out on the two different asphalt mixtures, it
was obtained that 1 km of track with modified glass mix costs 489.95 USD more
than a way with conventional asphalt mix. However, the importance of
incorporating glass into the mix asphalt not only lies in improving the properties
of the mixture, but from a technical point of view, it helps the environmental
solution for the management of waste in preservation of the environment.
