Resumen
The purpose of this research is to determine which has been the influence of the academic search engine Google Scholar in the teaching and learning processes, taking as a case study the teachers and students of the Social Communication Career of the Salesian Polytechnic University Headquarters - Quito.
For this, a mixed approach was used, that is, a qualitative and quantitative methodology, through the design of action research. For data collection, different interviews and surveys were used that were applied online, to teachers and students of the Communication Career, in order to obtain different data, perceptions and opinions in relation to the issue raised.
In this way, it was possible to verify that indeed, Google Scholar positively influences the teaching and learning processes in current higher education, in relation to the search and retrieval of academic information from the web. Also, another premise of this research was to determine the different forms of use of this academic search engine by teachers and students of the Communication Career of the UPS-Q.
Finally, it was found that all teachers have made use of Google Scholar in order to review the updated academic literature and thus use its results in their articles, book chapters and master's theses. For their part, the majority of students have used this search engine to find information available by the academy in order to significantly improve the quality and credibility of their work and research.
