Resumen
The objective of this work is to identify the pragmatic utility of the concepts of Gestalt Therapy (GT) to understand the body experience in hip hop dance, because it is recognized that there is a theoretical void of this approach as it does not possess its own body techniques despite seeking body-mind integration. The participants were two hip-hop dance instructors, who were interviewed in depth in two meetings where they described their body experience as dancers. Subsequently, a pragmatic analysis of the discrepancies was carried out at four different levels, making a contrast of the participants' body experiences with the GT concepts, from contextual and pragmatic characteristics, to identify whether these concepts manage to capture the experience. All this was carried out through a qualitative methodology using a case study configured by the theory with pragmatic characteristics, considering that this work is based on Pepper's Contextualism and James's Pragmatism. It was found that the concepts of Listening and Field do not capture the experience of the participants due to their limited scope and precision, and on the contrary, the Organismic Self-regulation, Awareness, Experience Cycle, Neurotic Mechanisms and Polarities together are essential to read an experience in a Gestalt manner. Therefore, it is concluded that the concepts of Experience Cycle, Organismic Self-Regulation, Awareness, Polarities and Neurotic Mechanisms do have a pragmatic utility to capture a bodily experience.
