Resumen
Agriculture, cattle raising and navigation are the main activities developed in the Sinu River basin, and taking into account the behavior of maximum flow rates is important since it influences these and other activities in case of a rise in the flow rate in any of the affluent to the basin. At the same time, knowing the maximum flow rates in the basin can help develop different studies on new civil and hydraulic works and new road structures.
Despite the magnitude and importance of the Sinu basin, there is not enough information on the flow rates.
In this Project, a regional frequency analysis of maximum flows was performed using the flood index method. To do this the data for the maximum flows in 14 station along the Sinu basin was used. This information was collected from the IDEAM´s flow rates registry.
The procedure used began with the delimitation of homogeneous regions. Then, using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, the probability distribution that best adjusted to the data series was selected and used to start the flood index calculation.
Through the development of cluster analysis, and statistical H1, two homogeneous regions were obtained. From these results the flood index method was developed to obtain the regional frequency curve equations. From these equations the peak flows for differents return periods was calculated.
Finally, with the calculated peak flows, errors were calculated (mean absolute error and mean absolute relative error). The obtained results varied between 0-25%, wich are consider acceptable.
