Resumen
The study of departmental elites by the Colombian academy has little precedent. Although the origin of national elites has been studied, reaching, by historical archeology, to find their departmental ancestry, the practice is not very common within social scientists. The Metense elite, represented in few groups, has played a fundamental role in the structuring of current power at the regional level. His patronage and hereditary pattern has strongly influenced the understanding of a non-changing policy, with few exceptions. Although the elitization of political power has been gradual, its presence in power has not been affected, either in ups or downs, thanks to its strategies based on timely social relationships and alternating alliances. Through analysis of social networks applied in UCINET, press archive and discourse analysis, the relationships that have led this elite to hold the power they maintain today are understood.
