Resumen
We understand geopolitics as a relatively new science that has taken great relevance thanks to globalization; it is responsible for studying, analyzing and making decisions about the international political behavior based on several variables with global relevance, such as the environment, human rights, international economy, international relations, among others. For the respective essay we will focus specifically on the environmental field, since, due to global warming and the extreme environmental changes that our planet has undergone in recent years, this has gone from being an issue of little relevance to one that has come to affect and even interfere in absolutely all other areas of global geopolitics. Just to give an example, many countries have had to sign various treaties to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions as an effort to slow down the current environmental crisis; however, this has drastically affected their domestic economy, as many companies have not been able to adapt to the new rules and have even had to cease their activities, generating unemployment, increasing poverty levels and generating an economic and social imbalance.
We can say that environmental geopolitics is the what, where, how and by whom decisions are made regarding everything related to the environment at the international level. Of course, it is easy to infer that the decision makers are located north of the Equator; but is the global environmental geopolitics of the 21st century really equitable for all countries of the world?
