Resumen
This research studies the edge effect in flat piedmont areas, taking fragments from the Caño Vanguardia and Quebrada Vanguardiuno Protected Forest Reserve in the municipality of Villavicencio as the object of study. Nine forest fragments classified in three different sizes (< 6 ha, 6 - 14 ha and > 14 ha) were sampled, and three transects with a length of 40 m were traced in each fragment, each with six different distances from the edge (0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 40 m) sampling points and plots of 2.5 m x 10 m and 1 m x 1 m in which vegetation (species composition, leaf litter depth and density of ground vegetation) and microclimatic variables (relative air humidity, air temperature and soil) were surveyed. The results show tendencies to change the variables analysis from the edge of the forest to the interior, although, these tendencies were not statistically significant since the pattern of the variables is irregular and unclear in each of the fragments of the study, concluding that there is no edge effect, however, it is reiterated that the area has many factors involved in determining the edge effect, the most relevant being the anthropogenic interventions and the variability of the topography in each of the fragments. It is recommended for future research to increase the length of the transects and to consider the influence factors mentioned above.
