The rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer people (LGBTQ) are subject of study mainly in the United States and Europe. The analysis of human rights and sexuality in International Relations and International Law in Latin America from a queer theory perspective is a novel tool that allows a new approach to this problem. This article traces what is understood by LGBTQ rights, what is their current protection standard, and how heads of state or government interpret these rights with the goal of identifying different representations or figurations of the homosexual or the LGBTQ in the human rights systems and the presidential speeches of the region.
