Resumen
Introduction: Children with cerebral palsy have limitations in gross motor capacity and lower mobility performance in everyday settings, which impacts the functionality and quality of life of children and their families
Objective: To determine the correlation between gross motor capacity and mobility performance in the pediatric population with cerebral palsy at the Roosevelt Institute of Children’s Orthopedics in Bogotá, Colombia, between the years 2011 to 2020.
Methodology: Gross motor function and communication of children with CP were evaluated. A questionnaire on mobility within the home, school and the street was applied. Correlations were established between the type of mobility and gross motor function, and mobility at home was compared with mobility at school and on the street.
Results: Some children classified in the non-crawling group were able to perform this movement at home. A high percentage of the children who walked with support preferred to crawl at home. Children who were independent at home require support devices at school and on the street. A low percentage of children self-propelled a wheelchair.
Conclusion: The mobility of children with CP varies across different spaces. The proportion of children with dependent mobility increases in school and in the street.
