This research is ethnobotanic and part of the need to analyze quantitatively the
knowledge contained in the traditions of rural populations in the municipality of
Santo Domingo Tonalá Huajuapan de León, Oaxaca. One of the main
agroforestry systems present in these populations is the family garden, part of the
traditions handed down from generation to generation, representing a large
reservoir of information and biodiversity, these two aspects constitute the cultural
value is implicit in plants present in these orchards. The analysis was performed
primarily through semi-structured interviews the owners of 24 gardens and natural
landscapes ecological and cultural importance in the valley of the municipality.
Subsequently, the data obtained was carried out the analysis of key
ethnobotanical data (informant's name, name (s) of the plant, use (s) that is given,
blooming season, planting season, as life, degree of management, type of
marketing (consumption or sale), plant part used, preparation), the determination
of the value of use of each species and the estimation of the general cultural value
of the plants by multivariate analysis of numerical classification. Families with
greater presence are the Asteraceae, Cactaceae and Fabaceae, the lifestyle most
represented is the herbaceous, the proportion of women who manage the garden
is larger than that of men. The use value index suggests that the species Lippia
graveolens and Psidium guajava are most commonly used. Multivariate analysis
shown by the dendrogram of numerical classification that regardless of crop plants
most of them in home gardens are protected and tolerated handling (in situ), and
wild (ex situ); uses edible, ornamental-ritual and medicine are the most
representative. This shown the cultural value of these plant resources in home
gardens and highlights the importance of these agro-ecosystems and essentials
