Resumen
This Case Study aims to analyze to what extent the commercial dynamics of Chinese Oil Diplomacy have made Ecuador a strategic partner for the PRC. Oil, as an energy source is essential for carrying out the processes of industrialization and sustain economic growth of the Asian Lion. Therefore, the search of alternative oil sources has become a major topic within the foreign policy agenda. Ecuador, the third country in South America with more oil reserves, after Venezuela and Brazil, has become a zone of influence of the PRC and through the state oil companies have signed contracts for the sale of oil. Although bilateral relations are asymmetrical, they seek to establish whether Ecuador is a strategic partner in the region.
