Resumen
Objective: To determine if the presence of severe blood hypertension, different age range, male sex, dyslipidemia under treatment, obesity or different number of clinical risk predictor, are associated with higher likelihood of developing acute heart failure, non lethal acute myocardial infarct or cardiovascular death in 65 or older patients who were taken to a non cardiac surgery procedure. Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was made, taken into account patients who were taken to non cardiac surgery procedure in CardioInfantil Foundation between January 1st 2003 and December 31st 2005. It was carried out bivariate analysis, student T test and Chi square to determine the statistic significance and a final logistic regression. Results: Of 1,600 analyzed events, 9.2% presented cardiovascular complications, of which 40.1% were lethal. Smoking, severe blood hypertension and a higher number of clinical risk predictors are associated with an increase in the probability of lethal and non lethal cardiovascular complications, with a relative risk of 5,3 (CI 95%, 3,7-7,69), 4,27 (CI 95%; 2,56-7,11) and 18,86 (CI 95%; 9,59-37,1) respectively. Dyslipidemia, male sex and older age are associated with non lethal events, with a RR of 3,1 (CI 95%; 1,97-4,87), 1,67 ( CI 95%; 1,06-2,62) and 2,49 (CI 95%; 1,03-6,05), respectively. Conclusions: Risk factors for coronary disease in general population are also risk factors for cardiovascular complications in patients taken to non cardiac surgery.
