Perfil logístico del sector cemento en Colombia

Abstract

This project characterize the logistics of Colombian cement industry by identifying and describing the main characters, processes and material which are involved in the cement industry’s supply chain. This document compiles the relevant logistic information for the cement production in Colombia. The information was obtained by synthesizing studies and reports about logistic practices and the conditions in which they are developed. Furthermore, field observations were performed and semi-structured interviews with cement logistics experts were conducted. With primary and secondary information, the products and cement production’s raw materials and inputs are characterized. The key industry players are identified and the cement logistic processes are described. In the case of cement companies and quarries, an input-output analysis for main value chain processes was executed. In addition, the transport operation is exposed as a key factor in cement industry, and freights, routing and rightsizing simulations are presented. Finally, a transport optimization was included applying operations research theories.
