This paper attempts to show that in the border  region  of  the  Tachira  State  (Ve n ezuela ) with the North of Santander Department (Columbia) it has appeared manifestations of subnationalism that could be considered a base to build ideas of autonomy or "regionalism", even if the State has kept its power of cohesion and territo rial integrity. It refers to feelings of exclusion that come from their respective centres of power, that have allowed the formation of blocks of regional power that use the regio nal or border "particularity" to obtain political and economic objectives, difficult to achieve otherwise. It assumes the role of the state as a guarantor of the territorial and population intcgrity, with the objective of exemplifying wi th this frontier region the problems that the States of the Andean sub region confront to keep their population and territory cohesive and integrated, using basically ideological, rather than economic and social i nstruments.
