Analog multiplier is an essential operational block used in different fields of electronics, especially in instrumentation where it's used recursively in control applications and signal processing, this is due to its basic nature of a simple operation that can't be replaced with no other operational block. An ideal multiplier block could be modeled as a black box, where its inputs are two electric signals and its output is the multiplication of them. Voltage is used as an input signal in most topologies, but also there are some of them using input current instead, these topologies are known as current mode multipliers. The multiplication of two electric signals has different basic applications, for instance, a sinusoidal one could be modulated by a physical variable, the amplitude of another sinusoidal signal fixed by a second signal that could be voltage, here, the multiplier acts as a controlled distortion attenuator also called volume control.
