| dc.description | Resumo: O objetivo neste trabalho foi analisar a influência da dimensão vertical de oclusão (DVO), na curvatura da coluna cervical por meio de aferições de medidas lineares craniocervicais. Foram selecionados 17 voluntários desdentados totais, com sinais clínicos de diminuição de dimensão vertical de oclusão, portadores de sinais e sintomas de disfunção temporomandibular e usuários de próteses totais, inscritos no cadastro de pacientes do CETASE (Centro de Estudos e Tratamento das Alterações Funcionais do Sistema Estomatognático), da Faculdade de Odontologia de Piracicaba. Os voluntários utilizaram o aparelho de cobertura oclusal plana para o restabelecimento da dimensão vertical de oclusão e do tônus muscular, por um período de 120 dias. Telerradiografias em norma lateral foram realizadas antes (com as próteses totais antigas), e após o período de 120 dias. Foram realizadas quatro medidas lineares craniocervicais, aferidas antes e após o tratamento. Primeiramente, foram encontrados os centros dos corpos das vértebras cervicais de C2, C3 e C4 respectivamente. A partir do ponto localizado no centro de cada corpo cervical, foram traçadas linhas até a intersecção com a linha vertical que passa pela tangente póstero-superior do processo odontóide da segunda vértebra cervical (C2), e vai até o ponto ínfero-posterior da quarta vértebra cervical (C4), formando um ângulo reto. Foi aferida também a medida linear do Atlas (C1), até o Plano McGregor para a avaliação da postura da cabeça em relação à coluna cervical. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise estatística pelos testes t de Student, teste de Wilcoxon pareado, teste U de Mann-Whitney com nível de significância de p<0,05, e cálculo de Relevância Clínica (CR). Foram feitos cálculos estatísticos para todo o grupo estudado e também para os grupos de voluntários separados pelo valor da DVO restabelecida. Foi observada Relevância Clínica e diferença estatística entre os valores médios iniciais das medidas lineares dos centros dos corpos vertebrais de C2, C3 e C4 com a linha vertical C2-C4 quando comparado o grupo de voluntários com DVO maior ou igual a 10mm com o grupo de voluntários com DVO menor que 10mm. | dc.description | Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of the vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO), in the posture of the cervical spine and head through measurements of craniocervical lines. Seventeen edentulous subjects were selected, with clinical signs of decrease vertical dimension of occlusion, with signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and denture wearers, enrolled in the register of CETASE patients (Study and Treatment Center of System Functional Changes of Stomatognatic System), of Piracicaba Dental School. The subjects used occlusal plane appliance for the reestablishment of vertical dimension of occlusion and muscle tone, for a period of 120 days. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken before (with the old dentures), and after 120 days. Four linear craniocervical measures were taken, before and after treatment. Primarily, the centers of the cervical bodies of C2, C3 and C4 respectively were found. From the point situated in the center of each cervical body, lines were drawn to the intersection with the vertical line through the posterior superior tangent of the odontoid process of the second cervical vertebra (C2), and extends to the inferior-posterior point of the fourth cervical vertebra (C4), forming a ninety-degree angle. It was also measured the linear measurement of the Atlas (C1) until the McGregor Plan for the evaluation of the head position in relation to the cervical spine. The data were statistically analyzed by Student t test, Wilcoxon test, Mann-Whitney U test with a significance level of p <0.05, and also by calculating Clinical Relevance (CR). Statistical calculations were made for the entire study group and also to voluntary groups separated by the restored VDO value. Clinical Relevance and statistical difference was observed between the initial average values of linear measurements of the centers of the vertebral bodies C2, C3 and C4 to C2-C4 vertical line, when compared to the group of subjects OVD greater than or equal to 10mm with a group of volunteers with VDO less than 10mm.
