| dc.description | During a 5-year period, 331 impotent men, 21 to 84 years old (mean 56 years) were submitted to self-injection therapy. The ethiology of the erectile disfunction was not investigated. We used a pool of drugs including prostaglandin E1, phentolamine and papaverine. The follow up ranged from 2 to 60 months (mean of 29 months). The sucess rate was 98,79%. The complication rate was very low, represented by 4,28% of priaspism rate, ocurring in 14 patients and correspondig to only 0,04% of the total of the aplications perfomed during the follow up period. There was no case of fibrosis of the corpora. Ninety-eight patients discontinued the treatment. The cure rate was 11,92%. The self-injection therapy with vasoactive drugs is nowadays a major treatment of impotence of any ethiology, presenting a high safety level. Besides, self-injecton therapy leads to cure in a select group of organic patients. | |
