Resumen
This research, conducted at the CEDAL aluminum enterprise, aimed at analyzing the
equipment criticality to improve its maintenance management system. The methodology
was based on risk analysis quantitative and the Norsok Z-008, ISO-14224, EN-16646
and ISO-31000 standards. It consisted of six phases: physical asset selection,
operational context diagnosis, criteria selection to be applied, criticality calculation
using failure rate and economic consequences, equipment classification according to the
Pareto analysis and maintenance strategies for each zone of the matrix. Having applied
this methodology to 27 items of the extrusion process, a very high criticality level in the
extrusion cooling table of 1130.97 USD/h, with a failure rate probability of 92.88 %
and MTBF (Mean time between failures) of 63.59 h, therefore, the root cause analysis,
method of problem solving used to diminish the occurrence of failure- was determined
for this zone. We conclude that analyzing the equipment criticality increases the process
reliability in 23.16% and guides the maintenances resources. We recommend to
implement this methodology in all the production processes.
