The present research aims to implement the Pharmacovigilance System in hospitalization patients of the Clinical and Pediatric Area of the HOSPITAL DOCENTE DE LA POLICÍA NACIONAL GUAYAS N°2, in Guayaquil during the period September-November 2013. An Intensive Pharmacovigilance system was applied, patient-centered, with invaluable support of induction and deduction methods through inclusion and exclusion criteria for the development of the research. Tools such as review of medical records, control of daily medical visits, and interviews with the patient were used, and a study was also carried out on the diseases with the highest frequency in terms of reasons for hospitalization. As a result, in the Clinical Area, diseases associated with the digestive tract, genitourinary and respiratory tract were detected, 32 cases of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) were detected, representing 64%; likewise, in the Pediatric Area, the most frequent diseases were associated with the digestive tract and respiratory tract, detecting 11 cases of ADRs, representing 58%. In conclusion, it was possible to implement the Pharmacovigilance System by notifying the presence of ADRs through the use of Yellow Cards, identifying and reducing them in such a way that the system was carried out optimally, generating an economic and pharmacotherapeutic benefit for the patient. It is recommended to implement Pharmacovigilance Systems in Hospitals because they are useful tools that use operational and practical procedures established to determine the administration of pharmacological treatments and evaluation of the effectiveness of drugs, thus optimizing the health and life of the patients.
