Resumen
The photoprotective activity of Passiflora tripartita and Ocimum basilicum extracts was tested in the Phytochemistry Laboratories of the Faculty of Sciences of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, by applying the method of scientific experimentation and observation. The active principles of interest were cinnamates and flavonoids quantified in the fluid extracts and creams of each plant by spectrophotometry; the raw material, fluid extracts and finished product underwent quality control according to the Ecuadorian Standard of Phytopharmaceuticals and the American Pharmacopoeia XXXI. The in vivo test was performed on volunteers with skin type III with forearm protector divided into areas with 6 experimental surfaces exposed to solar radiation with UVI of 14.8 for a time of 120 minutes at 25 ±2 ºC. The evaluation of erythema was carried out after 3 hours through controls every 15 minutes by visualization of erythema with colorimetric strip and by comparison with a commercial cream with SPF 15. The research concludes that there is a considerable photoprotective activity, SPF 3 for Passiflora tripartita, SPF 5 Ocimum basilicum and SPF 7 for the combination of both extracts, also existing synergic effect in the cream with the combination of the extracts, thus potentiating its activity, evidenced in its protection factor. It is recommended to have the extracts stored at room temperature and the extracts should be tested on different phototypes.
