Presents a lecture of Professor Hungerford that continues with his considerations of Blood Meridian. Good and evil in this novel are discussed broadly. The Kid carries a Bible, but is illiterate. Hungerford argues that McCarthy had a challenge,to invoke the moral weight of his sources - biblical, literary and historical - breaking free of moral content. The boy had the Bible as an object and not as a spiritual guide. McCarthy has built a new moral conception from this work.
