The Huachocolpa mining district becomes one of the largest and most important that belong to important groups of the metallogenetic province of the central Andes of Peru. That it is composed of different varieties of mines, most of them generally located in tertiary volcanic areas and others in Limestone of the Pucara group. It is essentially a Pb-Zn deposit, with lower Ag and Cu values.
The different types of mines vary in their different types of study which are: Pirate, Porfiada, China Heretic and Porfiada VII in limestone (PB-Zn deposits) and Excelsior in volcanic (Hg deposits).
The rocks that are located in the town of pucara (Upper Triassic - Lower Jurassic) are older and of great proportions; they are covered by quartzites, sandstones and shales of the Goyllarisquizga group of the lower Cretaceous. All this sedimentary succession has been covered by a sequence of tertiary volcanic rocks (andesites and andesitic breccia), both then intrusive by stocks and dikes of andesite, microgranodiorite, microgranite and dacite.
Regionally, pirata and its surroundings are part of an eroded anticline heading approximately N-S, which, starting from the Huachocolpa area, reaches Huancavelica.
The “ORE Shoots” have been controlled mainly by the inflections of the veins both in strike and dip.
The positional sequence in veins 2 and 2-F of pirata has been determined on the basis of graphical mining studies of polished sections and was in general: sphalerite, anisotropic pyrite, calcite, pyrite, galena, geochronite and marcasite.
The analyzes of the metal ratios Ag, Pb, Zn, Cu have made it possible to establish a vertical zonal sequence with Ag in the center, together with Zn, with a Pb zone (towards the stubborn mines, Heretic China and Porphyry VII) and another area of Ag-Zn (in the pirate mine).
From the analysis of quotients it is also clear that possibly the mineralizing solutions have their focus towards the NW, related to the intrusives that outcrop in the consolation area, these deposits make up epithermal deposits of the Ag-Pb-Zn type, characterized by the filling of pre-mineral fractures with mineralizing matter brought by hydrothermal solutions and deposited at shallow pressures and temperatures.
The economic potential of these deposits is constituted by 50,000 T.C.S.,with the possibility of increasing in the short term with the explorations that are currently being carried out.
