Uso de tres especies de microalgas en la remoción de coliformes totales y fecales presentes en lixiviados

La remoción de contaminantes en sistemas biológicos es posible mediante la aplicación del cultivo de microalgas, ya que éstas presentan diversas adaptaciones y ciertos mecanismos de tolerancia. Las microalgas son capaces de remover microorganismos patógenos, metales pesados, y compuestos orgánicos tóxicos mediante procesos aún en vías de estudio. El objetivo fue evaluar la remoción de contaminantes biológicos en lixiviado empleando las microalgas Chlorella sp., Scenedesmus quadricauda y Ankistrodesmus nannoselene. Estas microalgas se cultivaron en medio CHU10 por tres semanas. Luego fueron expuestas a dos concentraciones de lixiviado (1v/1v y 1v/2v) por triplicado. Se evaluó el porcentaje de remoción de coliformes totales y fecales entre el día 0 y el día 15. Se realizó la extracción de lípidos totales con cloroformo: metanol (2:1). Los resultados indican que Ankistrodesmus nannoselene mostró un mayor crecimiento a los 14 días con una densidad óptica de 0.391 Scenedesmus quadricauda fue la microalga que reportó mayor producción de biomasa en los dos tratamientos (0.4 ± 0.06). Ankistrodesmus nannoselene presentó el mayor porcentaje de lípidos totales (40%). Respecto al porcentaje de remoción; Ankistrodesmus nannoselene mostró un mayor porcentaje de remoción de coliformes fecales con (99.2% con T2; y 99.9% con T1). En conclusión, el tiempo de exposición al lixiviado solo indujo a la producción significativa de biomasa microalgal y acumulación lipídica en Ankistrodesmus nannoselene. Se evidenció remoción en todos los tratamientos.
