La actividad en los centros de salud es una actividad peligrosa que entraña riesgos propios; es por ello que se suele identificar las medidas de bioseguridad principalmente con las realizadas en un centro hospitalario; en la búsqueda de prevención de los riesgos que entraña la contaminación con agentes patógenos a las que está expuesta el personal sanitario es que aparecen las «Medidas de Bioseguridad» como la alternativa preventiva por excelencia para disminuir el riesgo de estar expuesto laboralmente a infecciones causadas por diversos agentes, especialmente virus y bacterias; ya que los trabajadores de la salud en su actividad deben manipular fluidos que conllevan a riesgos biológicos.
