Análisis de la propagación subcrítica de una fisura crecida por fatiga mediante el método de elementos de contorno

La falla catastrófica de estructuras es causada por la propagación de fisuras más allá de un tamaño seguro. Estas fisuras, presentes de alguna forma en todo componente estructural, son el resultado de defectos de fabricación o de daños localizados generados durante su servicio y pueden crecer lentamente debido a procesos de fatiga (A. Portela 1992), provocando una disminución de su resistencia estructural y generando hacia futuro una falla catastrófica. La determinación de la tolerancia al daño, propagación subcrítica, siendo esta una propiedad estructural que determina la capacidad para sobrellevar de manera segura una fisura durante la vida útil de una estructura, es uno de los objetivos en el análisis y evaluación de fallas. Adicionalmente, la determinación de la velocidad de crecimiento y del tamaño critico, son parámetros que permiten determinar la estabilidad de la fisura y vida residual de un componente estructural.
La presente investigación estudia un método numérico como una herramienta computacional basada en el método de los elementos de contorno dual, BEMD, que permite estudiar la propagación subcrítica de una fisura en estructuras, sometidas a esfuerzos cíclicos, fatiga. El código permite desarrollar modelos computacionales para el estudio de resistencia residual de componentes bidimensionales fisurados, basado en la teoría de mecánica de fractura elástica lineal. Se presenta la formulación por elementos de contorno dual del problema, su implementación computacional y su aplicación al análisis de problemas específicos de propagación subcrítica de fisuras por fatiga. El crecimiento subcrítica de la fisura es modelado a través de la teoría de propagación por fisura propuesta por Paris aplicado al caso de elasticidad plana y es usado el criterio de esfuerzos principales máximo para definir la dirección de propagación, desarrollado por Artur Portela. La formulación de BEMD ha sido implementada en un código computacional desarrollado en FORTRAN 90. Sea aplicado el método numérico a una placa de forma de una cruz fisurado corroborando los datos que obtiene Portela [1992] con un factor de intensidad de tensiones normalizado con un factor de 9.83125 en función al número de incremento en el crecimiento de la fisura. El programa ha demostrado, inicialmente, su efectividad para predecir trayectorias de propagación y resistencia residual por fatiga subcrítica, permitiendo su uso como herramienta de análisis en ingeniería.
