El tiocianato, es considerado como un parámetro de monitoreo de las descargas, para asegurar la calidad del efluente y en la alimentación para determinar la cantidad de cloro necesario para el tratamiento. Las filas de lixiviación se tienen todas las condiciones necesarias para que los minerales sulfurados provenientes de la zona transicional y de la zona de sulfuros reaccionen con el cianuro de la solución lixiviante. Se convierte en 30% de cianuro de la solución lixiviante para producir una concentración aproximada de 20 mg/L de Tiocianato en la solución rica. Esto es por la necesidad de una mayor fuerza de cianuro de la solución lixiviante y del incremento del consumo del cloro para la descodificación de los efluentes excedentes. El proceso de Osmosis inversa mantienen eficiencia superiores al 98% en la eliminación de Tiocionato de los flujos de tratamiento, mientras que las unidades convecionales mantienen eficiencias en el rango de 90-99%. Para poder eliminar el cianuro del flujo de proceso es necesario eliminar primero todo el Tiocianato, así se tenga la evidencia de cloro libre, porque sino, no podremos eliminar completamente el cianuro. En el análisis de sistema de reacción de cloración vemos que no existe un eficiente mecanismo de dispersión del gas en el líquido, lo que se evidencia en la necesidad de un alto porcentaje de cloro en exceso en el proceso de osmosis. El sistema de bombas cubre en un amplio margen la potencia consumida causada por la presión de estas nuevas unidades.
