En el presente trabajo se evaluó el efecto de la presión de descarga de una solución tánica conteniendo sólidos en suspensión (partículas de tara) a través del filtro prensa, sobre el tamaño de malla. Se empleó el método experimental de diseño factorial con 04 niveles de variable independiente y tres repeticiones por nivel para obtener una significancia de 96%, empleando muestras de jugo preparada con tara procedente de la provincia de Guadalupe y un filtro prensa experimental de 90 cm2 de superficie con diferentes tamaños de malla estándar: 20,22,24,26 Mesh; bomba centrifuga de 1/2hp; 220 V; además de instrumentos de medición ( manómetros, termómetro, medidor de sólidos en suspensión etc.). Se determinó que la caída de presión del fluido a través del filtro prensa tiene un comportamiento potencial con respecto al tamaño de malla según el modelo obtenido; ΔP = 0,4744r-3,997 para un valor del radio de los orificios de las mallas en m y presión en kg/cm². La caída de presión a través del filtro prensa se incrementa a medida que transcurre el tiempo de operación de filtrado (t) para un espesor de torta constante de 20mm.El modelo calculado se especifica: ΔP = 0,0003t2 - 0,0559t + 3,2545 Se determinó las dimensiones de un filtro prensa para soluciones acuosas conteniendo solidos suspendidos determinados a partir del flujo de solución (θ) en L/h: Para un proceso continuo: S· = 0,715 θ x10-5 m³/h ; Para una operación continua de 10 horas hasta la limpieza de los filtros.
