EI presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo eI dimensionamiento de un sistema de tratamiento de residuos hospitalarios a partir de su capacidad de carga. Siendo eI proceso de tratamiento usado para residuos mddicos, la incineracidn con aire controlado o incineracibn de doble ctmara; la cual incluye un absorbedor que asegure una eficiente retencidn de los contaminantes gaseosos para que eI efluente gaseoso sea liberado a la atmdsfera cumpliendo con las normativas vigentes. Actualmente nuestra ciudad afronta graves problemas de contaminacidn, y eI mls urgente es eI causado por la contaminacibn de residuos hospitalarios eI que se ha convertido en un tema vital tanto para la autoridad sanitaria/ambientaI y para la comunidad, puesto que pueden constituirse en un riesgo para la salud y eI ambiente, debido a sus caracteristicas de peligrosidad por eI cartcter corrosivo, reactivo, inflamable, tdxico, voIttiI y patdgeno de dichos residuos; ademts por eI inevitable surgimiento de nuevos residuos producto de las actividades de investigacidn. Entre los principales objetivos de un incinerador se encuentra; reducir eI peligro asociado con los desechos, eI volumen y la masa de los mismos, disefiar un incinerador que pueda ser 0tiI para los hospitales. Estos objetivos son consumados gracias a la exposicidn de los desechos hospitalarios a atlas temperaturas durante un periodo de tiempo suficientemente largo para destruir organismos que pudieran ser una amenaza. EI poder calorifico es obtenido de los mismos residuos y del combustible auxiliar, at ser quemados en presencia de aire.
