Estudio sobre la navegación prehispánica en los Andes Centrales: tecnología, desarrollo y rutas de intercambio

La presente investigación tuvo como principal objetivo estudiar la tecnología y desarrollo de la navegación prehispánica, evaluando también la posibilidad de navegación a larga distancia de las antiguas civilizaciones de las costas peruanas con fines de intercambio para la adquisición de recursos exóticos como el Spondylus. Se realizó el análisis iconográfico, el estudio etnohistórico y etnográfico correspondiente. Los pequeños modelos de balsas recuperados fueron muy importantes para conocer las diferentes formas de embarcaciones usadas por los antiguos habitantes de las costas peruanas. Se concluyó que la navegación prehispánica se realizó sobre la base de cuatro tipo de embarcaciones: las balsas de troncos, con su variante principal, la balsilla, las balsas de totora, las balsas de piel de lobo marino y las balsas de calabazas para cruzar los ríos. Igualmente, a partir del año 1100 d.C. culturas como Lambayeque y Chimú, y posteriormente la cultura Chincha parecen tener los conocimientos necesarios para realizar viajes a larga distancia hasta las costas de Ecuador e incluso regiones más distantes.
