Relación entre el número de linfocitos totales y parasitosis intestinal en personas infectadas con VIH.

Con la finalidad de establecer la relación entre el número de linfocitos
totales y la presencia de parasitosis intestinal en personas infectadas con VIH, se
estudiaron a 114 pacientes que acudieron a la consulta externa así como en
hospitalización del Departamento de Medicina del Hospital Regional Docente de
Trujillo, a quienes se les examinó muestras de heces durante tres días consecutivos
procesadas inmediatamente en el laboratorio del Instituto de Medicina Tropical y
Enfermedades Infecciosas de la UNT. Así mismo se tomó muestra de sangre para
el hemograma (a partir del cual se calculó los linfocitos totales). Se encontró que
el número de linfocitos totales menor de 1500 se relacionó significativamente con
la presencia de parasitosis intestinal en personas infectadas con VIH, siendo el
número promedio de linfocitos totales significativamente inferior en personas
infectadas con VIH que presentaron parasitosis intestinal que en aquellas sin
parasitosis intestinal. Los principales agentes causales de la parasitosis intestinal en
personas infectadas con VIH fueron: Blastocystis hominis (84.8%), Giardia lamblia
(34.8%), Isospora belli (26.1%).
