Síndrome pseudoexofoliativo como factor de riesgo de complicaciones intraoperatorias en pacientes con catarata senil.

El síndrome de pseudoexfoliación (PEX) capsular es una patología frecuente
presentando el 14 % de prevalencia en pacientes con catarata senil, y a pesar de que
predispone a condiciones que pueden producir complicaciones durante la cirugía
intraocular, especialmente de cataratas y glaucoma no se le da la importancia
necesaria. Es una enfermedad relacionada con la edad, se caracteriza por la producción y acumulación progresiva de material anormal, de naturaleza fibrilar extracelular en prácticamente todos los tejidos del segmento anterior y en diversos órganos viscerales que poseen tejido conectivo. Este material denominado material de
pseudoexfoliación se encuentra en el tejido conectivo del estroma de la conjuntiva,
cuerpo ciliar, iris, endotelio corneal, cápsula anterior del cristalino, zónula de Zinn y
malla trabecular. La presencia de pseudoexfolicación en la superficie anterior del
cristalino es la más consistente y sencilla valoración para el diagnóstico clínico de
pseudoexfoliación.
