Evaluación fitoquimica y comparación del efecto hipoglucemiante de extractos acuosos de gentianella bicolor (wedd.) fabris ex j.s. pringle, gentianella nitida, gentianella chamuchui y smallanthus sonchifolius en rattus rattus.

Abstract

Peruvian traditional medicine has been used since ancient times to family Gentianaceae species well as the Smallanthus sonchifolius for the treatment of Diabetes Mellitus. The aim of this study is to compare the hypoglycaemic effect of aqueous extracts obtained from Gentianella bicolor (Wedd.) Fabris ex JS Pringle, Gentianella nitida, Gentianella chamuchui and Smallanthus sonchifolius in Rattus rattus. Rats were divided into seven experimental groups (healthy rats as a control group, untreated STZ-diabetic (60 mg/kg B.W., IP), treated STZ-diabetic with aqueous extract of Gentianella bicolor (500 mg/kg B.W.), treated STZ-diabetic with aqueous extract of Gentianella nitida (500 mg/kg B.W.), treated STZ-diabetic with aqueous extract of Gentianella chamuchui (500 mg/kg B.W.), treated STZ-diabetic with aqueous extract of Smallanthus sonchifolius (500 mg/kg B.W.) and treated STZ-diabetic with glibenclamide (10 mg /kg B.W.). All groups were evaluated for 21 days. During the first 13 days, the blood glucose levels not decreased significantly in any group of experimentation. From day 14, the blood glucose levels was reduced significantly when there are compared with the control group. In treated STZ-diabetic with aqueous extract of Gentianella bicolor group the blood glucose levels was reduced about 40% after administration of the extract. The hypoglycaemic effect of Gentianaceae family species used in the study was confirmed, showing a long-term blood glucose decrease effect that could be due to the regeneration of the pancreas beta cells, while the same effect was not observed with the administration of the aqueous extract of Smallanthus sonchifolius.
