Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo preparar formulaciones tópicas a base de Ipomoea batatas y realizar su evaluación microbiológica de patógenos. La evaluación se realizó siguiendo el procedimiento que consistía en, preparar 03 formulaciones tópicas a base de extractos hidroalcohólicos de tallos, hojas y cáscaras de Ipomoea batatas en forma de geles; incluyendo en la preparación componentes básicos como alcohol etílico 70°, carbopol, glicerina, propilenglicol, trietanolamina y agua purificada c.s.p. Luego las formulaciones tópicas se sometieron a pruebas microbiológicas para determinar la presencia o ausencia de microorganismos patógenos: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus
aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa y Candida albicans, de acuerdo a la normativa de la
Farmacopea de los Estados Unidos (USP 44 – NF 39). Se concluye que las formulaciones tópicas de gel de hojas y gel de cáscaras de Ipomoea batatas cumplen las especificaciones de la USP, al no presentar crecimiento de microorganismos patógenos, mientras que el gel del tallo de Ipomoea batatas no cumple con las especificaciones establecidas de calidad microbiológica, debido a que presentó crecimiento de Staphylococcus aureus
