The purpose of this study was investigated the use of heteropolyacids as catalysts on the esterification reactions of the fatty acids obtained from the hydrolysis of castor oil. For it is well- known that the esters generated from those reactions are valuable source to synthesize promising candidates to be excellent biolubricants. The esterification reactions were carried out using long-chain alcohols, the alcohol n-propyl and n-octyl, the molar ratio of fatty acid/alcohol used was 1:8 and 10 wt% catalyst was added relative to the fatty acid. The reaction temperature was kept at 110 ºC while the mixture was stirred for 6h. Silica-gel, niobium oxide and SBA-15 were employed as supports. In general, it was observed that the catalysts prepared had the same catalytic efficiency independent of the alcohol used, the n-propylic alcohol or n-octylic alcohol in the ricinoleic acid esterification reactions. When employed phosphotungstic acid supported on silica gel (PTA/SiO2) and niobium pentoxide (PTA/Nb2O5) and silicotungstic supported on silica gel (STA/SiO2) both alcohol showed conversions above 98%. In the study of recovering and reusing, the catalysts PTA/SiO2 and STA/SiO2 were observed to keep their activities over two reaction cycles
