| dc.description | The present work aims at promoting the debate on the field of translation, more specifically
Literary Translation, followed by an experiment in translation using those concepts to analyse
said experiment. The focus of our translation is a tale within the book Cuchulain of
Muirthemne by Lady Augusta Gregory to the Portuguese language. Initially, it is a
bibliographical work, briefly revising the relevant literature on Translation Studies, Lady
Gregory’s work and impact to the Irish Nationalist Movement in the beginning of the 20th
Century. Afterwards, the translation activity is exemplified in practice, bringing to the
research an artistic approach. For such purpose, our theoretical framework addresses
reflections on translation as a scientific pursuit (Edwin Gentzler), specificities of Literary
Translation (Paulo Henriques Brito) and thoughts on Post-Colonial Translation (Lawrence
Venuti e Susan Bassnett). Next, we will present research on the translated original, its history
and context, as well as the literary scene that produced it. Finally, we will present our
considerations on the process of translation and the results achieved with the final text. | |
| dc.description | O presente trabalho tem como objetivo promover discussões acerca do campo de estudos da
tradução, enfatizando as especificidades da tradução literária. Em seguida, utilizar os
conceitos discutidos como recurso para analisar experimentações tradutológicas em um conto
da obra Cuchulain of Muirthemne de Lady Augusta Gregory para a língua portuguesa.
Trata-se inicialmente de uma pesquisa de cunho bibliográfico, com um breve levantamento
dos estudos referentes à teoria tradutória, a obra de Lady Gregory e seu impacto para o
movimento nacionalista irlandês do início do século XX. Em posterior momento, a atividade
tradutória é colocada em prática, trazendo para a pesquisa uma abordagem artística. Para tal
feito, o arcabouço teórico aborda reflexões sobre tradução enquanto ciência (Edwin Gentzler),
especificidades da tradução literária (Paulo Henriques Brito) e as reflexões de Lawrence
Venuti e Susan Bassnett no viés da tradução pós-colonial, seguido de conhecimentos sobre o
texto literário traduzido, seu histórico e contexto, bem como a cena literária que o produziu.
Por fim, são feitas reflexões sobre o processo de tradução de um dos contos da obra. | |
