sistema imunológico, comprometendo a homeostasia do organismo.
aborda em seu conteúdo: os hormônios do estresse, bem como suas funções;
estresse possui duas vias mediadoras, o Sistema Nervoso Simpático (SNS) e o
comprometer o funcionamento do sistema imunológico, principalmente, devido
a imunossupressão e as mudanças nas respostas Th1/Th2.

excess significantly affects the immune system which compromises its
homeostasis. Through an annotated bibliography, this project’s main objective is
to explore the negative impacts of stress on the immune system, emphasizing
cortisol’s role, the stress hormone, in the weakening of the immune system.
This research started by collecting data from related articles from databases,
such as: Scielo, Google Academy, UNESP and PubMed. Articles in Portuguese
and English were selected, prioritizing those from the past 10 years, from 2012
to 2022.
Through a vast amount of research, this thesis approaches its content: the
stress hormones and their functions; the relationship between stress and the
immune system; cortisol and the weakening of the immune system; and how
harmful this event can be to people’s health through the explanation of its
activation and regulation mechanisms. It is known that stress has two mediating
mechanisms, the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) and the
Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal Axis (HPA Axis), that despite preparing the body
for a possible fight can be extremely harmful when releasing high levels of
catecholamines and glucocorticoids. As a result of compromising the immune
system’s function, specially immunosuppression and changes in Th1/Th2
responses, stress has a major role in many illnesses etiology.
