Resumen
The practices of fan culture in digital environments involve a number of interactions that
individuals express through their actions in these spaces. Transmedia fictional universes
are a rich source of inspiration for fans, who are passionate individuals about stories and
characters. Many fans, however, are not only satisfied with the enjoyment of their favorite
narratives, but they also create and share content. We chose in this work to observe the
Brazilian fans’ productions of the fictional universe built around the American fantasy
and science fiction series Supernatural (The WB / The CW, 2005-2020). In the light of
the concept of transmedia literacy (SCOLARI, 2018), this research aims to investigate
the skills expressed in the creation of fanfics and fan videos about Supernatural published
in digital spaces. This work initially brings some considerations about transmedia
storytelling. In sequence, we observed the development of media literacy and the
emergence of the transmedia literacy concept. Subsequently, we did a review about the
fan culture, based on the contributions of several authors (JENKINS, 1992, 2009; FISKE,
1992; HILLS, 2002; SANDVOSS, 2005, 2013; LANIER; FOWLER, 2013). The last part
of the work brings the proposed analysis about the Supernatural fans’ productions, using
the dimensions of transmedia literacy as an analytical tool. We conclude that the
Supernatural fans’ productions can be categorized into narrative production and
paratextual production, being possible to identify individual and collective media skills
and competences related to critical consumption and creative production.
científica Supernatural (The WB/The CW, 2005-2020).
2009; FISKE, 1992; HILLS, 2002; SANDVOSS, 2005, 2013; LANIER; FOWLER,
PROQUALI (UFJF)
