dc.descriptionThe present project is linked to the research line Literature, Culture and Frontiers of Knowledge and to the research developed in the PPGLetras of UFGD on Brazilian poetry. It is proposed here to approach the biography of Castro Alves, focusing specifically on the 1860s, the most important and productive moment of his art. The starting point is the fact that Castro Alves, as a poet recognized by the critics and the public of his time, in his poems, brought to the public debate, and put them in evidence, some social discourses of a political nature. and humanist, which have been relevant to this day. The objective of the research is to approach the poet's intellectual formation trajectory and the way in which the ideas of revolution and social transformation, arising from the romantic framework, and the transformations of the "old world", influenced his way of seeing Brazil and dealing with it. social and political problems of the time. It can be said that Castro Alves expressed the state of affairs of a country in transformation, especially with regard to the changes resulting from the passage from the slave economy to an agrarian and semi-industrial capitalism. From a clipping in his biography, namely from 1860 until his death in 1871, we will investigate, in a conjectural way, the reasons that led the young Castro Alves to express a lyricism marked by epic tones, the anguish, expectations and political transformations of his country, as well as the reflections of these experiences on the author's personality. It is not, therefore, only about clarifying or deepening research (already existing) on his biography but seeking to complement them and point out aspects of the author's intellectual formation reflected in his way of being and expressing himself, considering the short life trajectory of a wealthy young man of the second half of the 19th century, regarding the assimilation of the liberal ideas of his time, the social changes and the cultural processes with which he lived. It is intended here to understand the way the poet thought, aiming to understand the historical and literary time and space in which he was inserted.
dc.descriptionO presente projeto se vincula à linha de pesquisa Literatura, Cultura e Fronteiras do Saber e às pesquisas desenvolvidas no PPGLetras da UFGD sobre a poesia brasileira. Propõe-se aqui abordar a biografia de Castro Alves, enfocando especificamente a década de 1860, momento mais importante e produtivo de sua arte. Toma-se como ponto de partida o fato de que Castro Alves, na qualidade de poeta reconhecido pela crítica e pelo público de sua época, em seus poemas, trouxe para o debate público, e os pôs em evidência, alguns discursos sociais de caráter político e humanista, que têm se mostrado relevantes até os nossos dias. O objetivo da pesquisa é abordar a trajetória de formação intelectual do poeta e o modo como as ideias de revolução e transformação social, oriundas do arcabouço romântico, e as transformações do “velho mundo”, influenciaram sua forma de ver o Brasil e de lidar com problemas sociais e políticos do tempo. Pode-se dizer que Castro Alves expressou o estado de coisas de um país em transformação, mormente no que diz respeito às mudanças decorrentes da passagem da economia escravagista para um capitalismo agrário e semi-industrial. A partir de um recorte em sua biografia, nomeadamente de 1860 até sua morte em 1871, investigaremos, de forma conjectural, as razões que levaram o jovem Castro Alves a expressar um lirismo marcado por tonalidades épicas, as angustias, expectativas e transformações políticas de seu país, bem como os reflexos dessas vivências na personalidade do autor. Não se trata, portanto, apenas de esclarecer ou aprofundar pesquisas (já existentes) sobre sua biografia, mas busca-se complementá-las e apontar aspectos da formação intelectual de autor refletidos no seu modo de ser e de se expressar, considerando-se a curta trajetória de vida de um jovem abastado da segunda metade do século XIX, no que diz respeito à assimilação das ideias liberais do seu tempo, às mudanças sociais e aos processos culturais com os quais conviveu. Pretende-se aqui depreender o modo como o poeta pensava, visando a entender o tempo e o espaço histórico e literário em que estava inserido.
