Resumen
Introduction: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is characterized by intermittent pain in the
anterior region of the knee, and is more prevalent in young women. PFP is aggravated
during activities of daily living (ADL), such as going up and down stairs, squatting, and
jumping; moreover, it is known that its perpetuation is related, among other
characteristics, to strength deficits in the stabilizing muscles of the hip and knee.
Objective: to identify the level of correlation between knee and hip muscle strength,
functional tests and pain perception in women with Patellofemoral pain (PFP). Method:
50 women with PFP between 18-30 years of age were evaluated. Isometric muscle
strength assessment was performed for the abductor, lateral rotator and hip extensor
muscles, and for the knee extensor muscles. The functional tests used were: Triple Hop
Test (THT) and Single-Leg Step Down (SDT). To measure pain the Pain Rating Scale
application was used, in which the participants marked the intensity of pain in the
month using the visual analog scale (VAS). After verifying the normality of the
variables using the Shapiro Wilk test, Pearson's correlation test was performed between
the variables of isometric strength and functional tests, and pain intensity. Results: A
strong correlation was observed between the hip abductor muscles and the distance
achieved in the Triple Hop Test (r=0.53). Furthermore, regarding pain intensity, a weak
and inverse correlation (r=-0.28) was observed with the measurement of dynamic
valgus during the THT landing. Conclusion: There was a moderate to strong positive
correlation between the abductor, lateral rotator, hip and knee extensor muscle strengths
and the functional performance of the Triple Hop Test, whereas there was a weak
correlation of pain intensity in the THT and Step Down Test.
joelho. Os testes funcionais utilizados foram: Triple Hop Test (THT) e Single-Leg Step
Down (SDT).
aterrissagem do THT (r=-0,28).
