Resumen
The crop of sugar cane is a major agricultural activity in Brazil, providing a wide
international market for ethanol and sugar. One of the factors affecting production costs is the
maintenance of equipments affected by damage related to the mass loss of wear mechanisms.
To minimize losses by wear mechanisms are used hardfacing deposits with different welding
processes and consumables, such as the high chrome content (FeCrC) with and without
addition of metal elements, formers of carbides. The alloying chemical composition and
application technique can contribute to occurrence of discontinuities like cracks and porosity,
which depending of the application may influence in the wear increase. Thus, the main
objective of this work is to study the technique for hardfacing application on carbon steel
plates, using the FCAW Self-shield welding process with and without addition of notenergized
wires looking for improvements in wear resistance and reduce the appearance of
discontinuities like cracks and porosities. Commercial self-shield hardfacing wires of
FeCrC+Ti and FeCrC+Nb alloys with 1.6 mm of diameter were used like energized wire. In
not-energized wire addition were used two commercial self-shield hardfacing wire of FeCrC
and FeCrC+Nb alloy wires with 1.6 mm with the commercial self-shield hardfacing wired of
FeCrC + Ti alloy like energized wire, and the ER308LSi wire with 1 mm in diameter with the
commercial self-shield hardfacing wired of FeCrC + Nb like energized wire. The wear
resistance of the hardfacing deposits was determinate using the dry sand rubber wheel test
following the ASTM G65-00 code. the results showed that the consumable condition of
FeCrC + Nb wire with addition of ER308LSi, presented high wearing resistance, followed by
the consumable conditions of FeCrC + Ti with the addition of FeCrC and FeCrC + Nb.
Hardfacing deposits without the addition of not-energized wire showed the lowest values of
wear resistance. The hardfacing deposits made with the commercial self-shield hardfacing
wire of FeCrC+Ti alloy showed satisfactory results in terms of occurrence of discontinuities.
descontinuidade a liga FeCrC+Ti apresentou resultados satisfatórios.
