Obadius Burmeister, 1875 (Carabidae: Scaritinae: Clivinini: Forcipatorina) is a very small genus with two described species known until now, O. insignis Burmeister, 1835, and O. affinis Tremoleras, 1931. Its taxonomical position has been discussed through time; however, it is accepted into the subtribe Forcipatorina after Perrault’s work. This work aimed to describe a new species of this genus. All the exemplars accessed were provided from the Entomology Collection of UFLA (CEUFLA). The species description was based on the morphological characters used by Baehr (2008) and Dostal (2015). The visual analysis was performed with an Olympus SZ with a 110AL 2x WD38 objective. The images and morphological measurements were obtained with a Leica M250 A, with the program Leica Application Suite auto-handing to combine the images. Images were processed with Adobe Photoshop. The new species Obadius pantanensis sp. n. was recorded in the Brazilian Pantanal, Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul state. The new species is recognized by the body shape elongated, pedunculated, and convex towards the sides. Head with central wrinkle like a “Y”, with no particular draw posteriorly. Gena projected as a lobe less developed laterally than the eyes, always with one tubercle on each side. Obadius pantanensis sp. n. shares some morphological similarities with O. insignis and with O. affinis, but it differs mainly by the range of size, shape of front wrinkles, and sternites punctuation. This work contributes to the taxonomical knowledge of the Carabidae family, increasing the number of species and the distribution range of this genus for Brazil and the Neotropical region.
