Interdisciplinarity (ID) can be interpreted as a principle of construction of teaching through the integration between areas of knowledge that have the same objective and that enabling an effective process of teaching and learning. One of the possibilities of thinking about interdisciplinary teaching is through STEM / STEAM education, a methodology that proposes integrated teaching of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. In this study, we seek, from different works reported in the literature, to list some of the definitions and applications of STEAM education and, from these, to establish relationships with the subject of interdisciplinarity, considering the potential of this proposal for interdisciplinary teaching such as methodological possibilities approach to topics discussed in chemistry teaching programs. It is understood by the survey carried out that STEAM education, as well as different methodologies take place in the interdisciplinary teaching being the consideration of the context as fundamental aspect.A interdisciplinaridade (ID) pode ser interpretada como um princípio de construção do ensino através da integração entre áreas do conhecimento que possuem o mesmo objetivo culminando em um processo efetivo de ensino e aprendizagem. Uma das possibilidades de se pensar o ensino interdisciplinar é através da STEM/STEAM education, metodologia que propõe o ensino integrado de ciências, tecnologia, engenharia, artes e matemática. Neste estudo, buscamos, a partir de diferentes trabalhos reportados na literatura, elencar algumas das definições e aplicações da STEAM education e, partindo destas, tecer relações com a temática da ID, considerando os potenciais dessa proposta para o ensino interdisciplinar tais como as possibilidades metodológicas à abordagem de temas discutidos nos programas para ensino de química. Compreende-se pelo levantamento realizado que a STEAM education, bem como diferentes metodologias têm lugar no ensino interdisciplinar sendo a consideração do contexto como aspecto fundamental.
