This article investigates the placement of Jesuit's Church and School in the colonial city of Belém. I analyze, from the archaeology of architecture’s perspective, how these buildings became elements in the landscape of power, within the oldest area of the city. The research is based both on the colonial period documentation as well as on the material aspects of this architectural complex. Maps and images demonstrate Belém’s spatial layout, focusing the relationship between the College and Church with the city. Another aspect concerns the discourses in the historical sources, taking in account the intention of the Jesuit priests in constructing a landscape of power within the oldest area of the state's capital in the former province of Grão-Pará.Key words: Archaeology of architecture, landscape, Jesuits.Neste artigo, investigo a inserção do Colégio e Igreja dos jesuítas na Belém colonial. Analiso, a partir da perspectiva da arqueologia da arqui­tetura, a forma como essas edificações se constituíram em elementos na paisagem de poder da área mais antiga da cidade. Pautei a investi­gação tanto na documentação relativa ao período colonial, quanto nos aspectos materiais do referido complexo arquitetônico. Utilizei também mapas e imagens que evidenciam a disposição espacial de Belém, com foco na relação do Colégio e Igreja aqui pesquisados com a urbe. Outro aspecto analisado diz respeito aos discursos impressos nas fontes histó­ricas, tendo em vista as intenções dos padres jesuítas na conformação da paisagem de poder da parte mais antiga da capital do antigo estado do Grão-Pará.
