The production of quality plantlets is fundamental to a proper development of plants in the field. This work aimed to evaluate the initial development of Ormosia arborea in different substrates. Sowing occurs after seeds immersion on sulfuric acid (20 minutes) and the emergency was evaluated daily for 40 days. Two hundred seedlings were transferred to polyethylene bags (fifty to each treatment): Treatment 1 – Subsoil + bovine manure (1:1); Treatment 2 – sugarcane filter cake + bovine manure (2:1), adding potassium chloride and ammonium sulfate; Treatment 3 – commercial substrate TecnomaxTM; Treatment 4 – Control – subsoil land. The parameters analyzed were: aerial part height, diameter at the stem base, and the leaves number per plant. At baseline, after 60 and 120 days the plants were submitted to the analysis of foliar area and dry mass. The aerial part/root ratio (PA:R), height/diameter at stem base ratio (H/DC), height/dry mass of aerial part ratio (H/MSPA), and the Dickson’s quality index were also determined after 120 days. The substrate containing only subsoil land showed to be the most efficient on the production of O. arborea plantlets.
