| dc.description | Em razão do alto potencial turístico decorrente dos atributos culturais, arquitetônicos e urbanos, Diamantina apresenta diferentes níveis de valorização entre o Centro Histórico e a periferia. A concentração de atenção e investimentos nas áreas centrais e a expansão periférica espontânea contribuem para o dualismo existente entre a cidade histórica e a periferia. Por conseguinte, houve transformações do espaço e da paisagem urbana, como a expansão periférica que, em alguns locais da cidade, acontece de forma precária e/ou irregular. Essas transformações trazem consigo impactos para a população, como a existência da segregação socioespacial, o comprometimento da qualidade de vida dos residentes destes locais e da paisagem urbana. Dessa forma, o objetivo do trabalho foi analisar o processo de expansão urbana de Diamantina, inicialmente constituída apenas pelo atual Centro Histórico, até a sua expansão periférica, investigando a transformação do espaço, a paisagem urbana e a dualidade da valorização do Centro Histórico frente à precarização da periferia. A fim de responder as inquietações da pesquisa, entendeu ser pertinente a investigação desses procedimentos a partir da análise qualitativa em bibliografia, documentos e método observacional, e análise qualitativa e quantitativa sobre a dualidade de valorização/precarização do Centro Histórico e da periferia. Portanto, ao investigar essa dualidade, utilizou algumas variáveis estabelecidas para cada bairro. No “índice de valorização/precarização”, o Centro Histórico obteve resultado de 58%, enquanto a periferia obteve um resultado de 42%. Portanto, diante das análises qualitativas e quantitativas, conclui-se que há uma valorização do Centro Histórico frente à periferia. Entretanto, também não deve deixar de ser mencionado que o índice não é tão diferente, demonstrando que as deficiências na organização do espaço urbano de Diamantina não afetam somente a periferia, mas também o Centro Histórico. Assim, as deficiências identificadas durante todo o trabalho devem ser objeto de atenção do Poder Público municipal. Palavras-chave: Planejamento urbano. Centros históricos. Periferias. | dc.description | Due to the high tourist potential owing to cultural, architectural and urban attributes, Diamantina has different levels of appreciation between the Historic Center and the periphery. The concentration of attention and investment in the central areas and the spontaneous peripheral expansion contribute to the existing dualism between the historic city and the periphery. Consequently, there have been transformations of space and the urban landscape, such as the peripheral expansion that, in some places of the city, happens in a precarious and/or irregular way. These transformations bring impacts to the population, such as the existence of socio-spatial segregation, the impairment of the residents' quality of life and the urban landscape. Thus, the objective of this work was to analyze the process of urban expansion of Diamantina, initially constituted only by the current Historical Center, until its peripheral expansion, analyzing the transformation of space, the urban landscape, and the duality of the valorization of the Historical Center, when compared to the precariousness of the periphery. In order to answer the research concerns, it considered pertinent the investigation of these procedures from the qualitative analysis in bibliography, documents and observational method, and qualitative and quantitative analysis about the duality of valorization/precariousness of the Historical Center and the periphery. Therefore, when investigating this duality, it set some variables for each neighborhood. In the “valuation/precariousness index”, the Historic Center achieved a result of 58%, while the periphery obtained a result of 42%. As a result, considering the qualitative and quantitative analyzes, it is concluded that there is an appreciation of the Historic Center when compared to the periphery. However, it should also be mentioned that the index is not so different, demonstrating that deficiencies in the organization of Diamantina's urban space affect not only the periphery, but also the Historical Center.
