Nesse cenário a figura do professor formador é central. Studies in Applied Linguistics have shown concern about the quality of teacher education, its practices and teaching approaches (CELANI, 2003; GIMENEZ, 2005; GALLARDO; OLIVEIRA, 2018; GIMENEZ, 2011; IALAGO e DURAN, 2008; MAGALHÃES, 2004; SANTOS; LIMA, 2011; RODRIGUES, L. 2016; VIEIRA-ABRAHÃO, 2004). It suggests that teacher educators are central in this scenario. However, few studies have focused on teacher educators or on their beliefs and emotions (BORGES et al., 2007; GODOY, 2019; ORTENZI, 2007; SALOMÃO, 2011; SILVA, 2018), despite the suggestions of some studies that these constructs are interrelated (ARAGÃO, 2011; BARCELOS, 2015; 2019; BARCELOS; RUOHOTIE-LYHTY, 2018; KALAJA et al., 2016) and should be investigated in an interrelated way. Hoping to contribute to close this gap, this case study aimed at identifying the beliefs and emotions of an English language teacher educator and her students and the relationship between these concepts. The participants were an English teacher educator, who has worked in a Languages course since 2018, and her four students of the first semester of a Languages course in a public university in the Southeast of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. Data was collected through an open-ended questionnaire, written narratives, visual narratives and semi- structured interviews to both teacher educator and students. Data analysis followed qualitative research guidelines (HOLLIDAY, 2002; PATTON, 2002; RICHARDS, 2003). The results have suggested that the teacher educator and the students share many beliefs. They believe that language teaching education should be based on theoretical and practical competences, as well as on a humanistic background that value per-service teachers, their beliefs and emotions. In addition, they believe that teacher educators are key figures in their teaching education and must help students and have responsibility for their practice. Their emotions were also similar, in their majority. They understand that English learning is complex and is related to emotions of sadness, frustration, but also passion for the language and the desire to learn it or teach it. This study brings implications for the role of beliefs and emotions of the language teacher educator and pre-service teacher and their pedagogical practices. We hope that it can help pre-service and in-service teachers working in different contexts to reflect about their emotions and beliefs about language learning and teaching. Keywords: Beliefs.
