The empirical study analyzed the relationship between digital skills, the Internet user profile and the academic performance of students, between 11 and 14 years old, from a public school in southern Brazil. It was identified that the participants had a good use of their school learning and among the Internet users the profile of the daily type prevailed. 25% of them were classified as active collaborators on the Internet and 63% as advanced and creative, according to the literature. There was a significant statistical association between the level of digital skills related to the primary location of Internet use in public places, but not between school performance and the levels of Internet skills of these students.O estudo empírico analisou as relações entre habilidades digitais, o perfil de usuário de Internet e o desempenho escolar dos estudantes, entre 11 e 14 anos, de uma escola pública no Sul do Brasil. Identificou-se que os participantes tinham um bom aproveitamento do seu aprendizado escolar e entre os usuários de Internet preponderou o perfil do tipo diário. Classificaram-se 25% deles como colaboradores ativos da Internet e 63% como avançados e criativos, conforme a literatura. Houve associação estatística significativa entre o nível de habilidades digitais relacionadas à localização primária do uso da Internet em lugares públicos, mas não entre o desempenho escolar e os níveis de habilidades com a Internet destes estudantes.
